Lucky # 13 Headed to the Red Neck Riviera

Lets start by saying it is not a wise idea to have cocktails in the late evening for a next day early departure on a 1000 mile journey. Its like a cyclops wearing an eye patch it just don’t make sense. We hit the road at 5:30 am it is myself, Mrs. GOM, my daughter and son-in-law. AKA the co-pilot. Well thank god that pilot AKA GOM can stay awake longer then an hour on a 20 hour drive. The beginning of the drive was very nice great weather unfortunately

we were just minutes behind a bad accident in Ohio that we found out later there was a fatality. Everyone needs to be extra careful on high speed highways things can go wrong quickly. The rest of the first day drive was uneventful and we spent the night at the former KOA North Nashville now known as blah blah blah. Remember how I started this excerpt well the second night of cocktails isn’t any better than the first. Enough said. The second day drive was the same uneventful with a little rain and love bugs. If you don’t know what they are I have only seem them in Alabama. When a male and a female mate they stay stuck together like Lucy and Desi. I did some research on them, it seems the number one cause of death for these lovers is windshields. Who

knew. We arrive at our destination the Buena Vista RV resort in Orange Beach Alabama. This place is beautiful and comes with a loft apartment included with our site that is as advertised. Also beautiful. We arrived on Saturday around 5:00 pm set up and got comfortable. After a long drive and a delicious meal it was any early night. Early for GOM and the young-ins is two different things. So its Sunday morning a wonderful breakfast and the Mrs. and daughter are off to the beach. Also that morning I discovered a wet land area behind out site with some local water fowl and low and behold a 10’ alligator. I named him Joe sue me he really didn’t look like a Pete. I would enjoy a cup of coffee every morning while I was there while he sunned himself on a platform that floated around the lagoon. I would share my hopes and dreams and he would tell me how he couldn’t get a descent night sleep for fears that the western apparel cartel would make boots out of him. So it is also game day and son in-law and myself prep for the days activities beer and the Steeler game. No brainer, cooler stocked a few minutes till game time its on at 12 there not at 1 duh. And low a behold its the Miami game. The Steelers don’t seem to be in the Alabama market. Who knew? We didn’t.

So GOM comes up with the great-fantastic-stupendous idea (since the RV is equipped with satellite dish capability) to get Dish Network Red Zone. Great idea right? Well no, $120.00 later and all we see is every game being played at that time when they are in the red zone. That was a bust great idea #2 get the NFL network on my phone. $10.00 later and cant watch any game because they took my money and an account never got set up. Stupid-Stupid-Stupid. FYI kids alcohol is not smart juice. So we ended up watching red zone and listening to some announcers on the radio from Cincinnati and drinking beer. Ladies were at the beach enjoying the sun and fighting off jelly fish. Monday was pretty uneventful with the girls going to the beach and me and the boy hanging out. (Drinking beer). Tuesday me and the son-in law went golfing at Kiva Dunes Golf the number one rated public golf course in Alabama and it lived up to it reputation the grounds were simply beautiful with attention to the smallest detail. Needless to say GOM took the loss graciously as the gentleman that he is. The rest of our stay was spent exploring the area doing some shopping and having some great sea food while getting some beach time in. Fyi we did see the biggest shark ever. Recommend eats The Gulf and Docs Seafood and Steaks. Alas our time to depart has come. Wanting to be on the road early Friday to miss school traffic and work traffic we get up early to pack in. As most times everything is going as I planned, misc items tables chairs etc. put away one slide in ok. 2nd slide in ok. 3rd slide in ok. 4th slide in going going jam. Ahhhhhh. I was so close. Slide is cocked in its slot. Try to extend go go go jam. Try to retract go go go jam. At this point try anything son in-law push this side while I retract pull that side while I extend over and over. Futile. Trying to find RV repair companies open at 6:30 in the morning then its 7:00 then 7:30. Burning daylight. Time to roll the dice call Tiffin directly. Operator answers tell them my issue she sends me to service. After waiting on hold maybe ten minutes I'm talking to a tech. Just when we were getting to the issue dropped call I thought I was going to lose it. Two deep breaths and redial operator answers and sends me to service another 10 minute wait and I have a tech on the line. I would like to say at this time within 15 mins we had the problem diagnosed and repaired so we could be on our way. They were fantastic. Kudos Tiffin. The Tif got myself and my family to and from the beach safely and we had a great time. What more can you ask for. I think this is probably our last outing for the year it really went by quick. Quicker then most years I must say. That is why QTL is so important. Stayed tuned for the next blog it will be a howl at least I think so. And after all I do this mainly for my own enjoyment.

Take care go find that QTL if you haven't already

GOM

LOVE BUGS

JOE
